Antonio Vaz de Macedo, MD, is currently the Head of the Hematology Clinic at Hospital da Polícia Militar, Brazil, and was the Head of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) Unit at Hospital das Clínicas, UFMG, one of the major public hospitals in Brazil, from October, 2015 until March, 2018. He was previously an assistant professor at the Department of Diagnostic Workup, Faculty of Medicine, UFMG, where he gained his Master´s degree in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine studying biomarkers in febrile neutropenia. In 2007, he was a visitor at the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, University of Minnesota, and, from 2014 to 2015, he practiced both patient assistance and research at the Unité de Greffe et de Maladies du Sang du CHRU de Lille, France. He has ever since been increasingly involved in research, with an expanding network of collaborators in the fields of hematology, HSCT, and infection. He is also an editorial board member and reviewer of several medical journals. In 2017, he received a Clinical Research Scholar Award in recognition of his “outstanding performance and participation in Principles and Practice of Clinical Research 2017”, a long-distance training program of T.H. Chan Harvard School of Public Health.
